The best essential oils for beginners offer many different health and natural living benefits.

Our household has been using essential oils regularly for awhile now, but when I first started, I found it hard to know which oils were the best essential oils for beginners.

Even before I started officially as a member, I was using a few oils around the house -but struggling to find enough natural alternatives to what I was using daily.

Having something natural-and proven- to turn to makes me feel like I am looking after my family in the best way I can.

I reach for the oils often and have so much less indecision about what I can put into the air or environment around my children.

It's saved a lot of mama guilt, but best of all, stopped a lot of horrible chemicals being in all around me and my babies.

At the start, though, I was just like anyone starting something new.

I was a bit:

  • cynical (yes, it's OK to doubt, because it makes you actually assess them properly)
  • confused as to what to do with each oil (hello, Pinterest)
  • confused about ratios of oil to carrier oil, etc.

This is what led to this post! I wanted to provide something easy, simple and clear on the 5 most useful oils around the house and a young family.

So what are the best essential oils for beginners?

(Just a quick disclaimer- I am actually a coach, not a doctor. I'm into parenting and life coaching. This is just what helps my family. Don't put anything on your family without checking the packaging or company recommendations first!)

1: Lavender

Lavender oil is one of the most versatile essential oils for beginners and experienced mamas alike.

It's great for:

I personally love using Lavender oil in the diffuser, with the combination of Frankincense and Copaiba for an earthy and calming scent through the house. (and natural of course! Win win!)

FYI I use the Desert Mist Diffuser through the Premium Starter Kit here-it's GREAT VALUE (and I need another diffuser soon, for the other end of the house)!

11 oils, 1 diffuser, samples of yummy Ningxia Red... such great value!

2: Purification

Purification is on my list of the 5 best essential oils for beginners for a simple reason.

It is AH-MAY-ZING at removing odours and 'purifying' any space I diffuse it or put a few drops. (who knew, the name covers it).

So, I'm a parenting coach and a mama of 3, AND a teacher.

Let's just say I have definitely experienced a few moments with my own, and other people's kids, when Purification could have REALLY come in handy! **shudder**

Just a couple of the ways I use Purification:

  • A few drops on a tissue or paper towel in the bottom of the kitchen bin (under the bag) and it seems to really help keep that yucky bin smell down!
  • A couple of drops into the wash on a rag or just dropped in with the water full, helps make the washing smell gorgeous and fragrant!
  • A drop or two in the diffuser with Lavender is perfect for giving the house a 'clean' smell!

Purification is a blend of myrtle, teatree, rosemary, lemongrass and citronella oils-and also Lavendin, which helps clean and purify the air.

Love it. Grab some through this link!

3: Lemon Essential oil

This one has such a huge variety of uses-and keep in mind the others I mention in this post do as well-that it's hard to narrow it down!

  • It's great for aroma like Purification
  • It pairs well with different oils as a diffuser blend. (I initially thought Lemon would be too strong, but it really does smell gorgeous.)
  • It's amazing for cleaning purposes too! Lemon is featured in the amazing Thieves Household Cleaner (hello, value AND real, natural cleaning), and is great for removing yucky marks off things, too.

(Note: always check directions and spot test first!)

Lemon essential oil is among one of the cheaper oils, (always handy as a stay at home mama) and I have to say I really feel a bit lost without my Lemon oil!

4: Thieves oil

Thieves oil is amongst the top of my oil collection.

It's a blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary...and I literally lose it in my house on a regular basis, because I carry it around, put it on a bench to help the kids.. and forget where it is.

Although I'm sure I'm the only one doing that!

I have to say, that everyone I have spoken to who has used Thieves has been impressed.

We use it for:

  • Diffusing (purifying the air and creating a gorgeous clean scent)
  • Spot cleaning surfaces like the oven door (works well with a bit of elbow grease)
  • Putting in a roller with carrier oil and popping on the soles of feet nightly to prevent colds and illness (great for preventative health)

5: Stress Away

Stress Away is amongst my very favourite oil blends.

I know, I've popped it last on the list of 5 essential oils for beginners-but that's because it's a blend, rather than a single oil.

I use this oil every.single.day.

(Did I mention I'm a Mama of three under 7?)

Every time I go out, I have some in my handbag, in the car, and everywhere!

Stress Away is a blend including Lime and Vanilla and smells so tropical and spicy-it's gorgeous (personal opinion obviously!)

I use it:

Above all, I hope this post has cleared up a few things with essential oils for beginners.

  • You do NOT have to know everything to start. Learn as you go, because it's much easier to learn gradually as you try them yourself bit by bit, like I did.
  • They are actually, surprisingly useful. Like, they actually are. (That's from a former cynic, by the way.)
  • Essential oils are very useful for the average Mama, around the house and the children, in many, many ways.

So how do I purchase an oil or sign up?

1: Go to this link and choose whether to become a member through grabbing a Premium Starter Kit or Basic Starter Kit, (therefore getting 24% off forever) or alternatively, buy retail and just buy single oils.

2: If retail, search for the product you would like to purchase (ie: Stress Away, Lavender), and follow the prompts through to checkout!

3: Receive your amazing oils in the mail not too long after!!

It's easy and so worth it.
