Two Year old Birthday Present Ideas
Finding it hard to think of two year old birthday present ideas?
We've all been there-trying to think of ideas for a little one's birthday.

If you're anything like most people, you're probably second-guessing your first choice ('Are they too old for that?'), and not sure where to go from there into something developmentally appropriate!
With many years of experience with children, play, learning and development, I've compiled this list of great toys for a two year old's birthday present to help you find something they'll love!
This list will give you plenty to choose from- AND why these toys are great for your child's development!
1: Lock Activity Box from Mamagenius
This activity box features 10 different coloured doors with various locking mechanisms, and will be so much fun for a toddler! It's bright and colourful, made from plantation rubberwood and is of solid construction.
Why is it good for my two year old's development?
Toys which involve discovery and exploration are extremely good for small children's development, because they require the child to think 'outside the box' as it were, and build their own conclusions about what they discover.
Essentially, they are finding out about how things work!
Apart from the mental discovery potential, the fine motor skills kids learn through playing with latches and locks is well known. Learning these skills requires brain and body to work together-which is exactly what a two year old is learning.
This would be an excellent choice for a two year old birthday present!

2: The Mini Micro Scooter Deluxe
These are perfect for an active little person who just loves to be moving!
The two-wheel front of the scooter keeps the child safe, stable and steady as they learn how to scoot, but the handle is adjustable so they can use it as they get older too.
Why is this great for my two year old's development?
Scooters are fantastic for young children, and are often the preferred method for parents when children graduate from pram-riding only.
Riding a scooter requires learning balancing skills, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills and also problem-solving skills.
Learning skills like this early are amazing for a child's self-esteem and 'have a go' attitude, as well as a wonderful opportunity for parents or grandparents to get involved with their young child.
The Mini Micro Scooter Deluxe is available here!
Don't forget to grab a helmet, too!
Not feeling it yet? My third two year old birthday present idea is coming right up!
3: The Jumbo Race Car Carrier
This is the sort of toy two year old boys (and girls) love!
Made by the well-known wooden toy sellers Melissa and Doug, this Race Car Carrier is stunning, and the folding ramp trailer detaches from the prime mover so that the truck can be played with separately!
The colours and ease of the Melissa and Doug range are beautiful and well known for their wooden toys which are hugely popular with children and adults alike.
Why is this a good choice for my child's development?
Children can play with this toy for hours, learning about colours, categorising and putting them in rows.
They can also build their fine motor skills and imaginary play ability, which is very important for their development as a whole-even into going to school and builds your child's ability to be a more resilient person.
If you haven't guessed, this one is my personal favourite-and I'm a huge fan of the Melissa and Doug toys.

Do you feel like you need more ideas still?
I thought I would add another absolute blockbuster favourite with educators and parents (and children) alike!
4: The Grimm's Rainbow (small version)
This is the quintessential wooden open-ended play toy for a two year old and older.
The parts are wooden and kids love the texture and robust feel of the wood. They also LOVE the colours (I mean, who doesn't love a rainbow?) and the fact they can use the shapes for many different 'jobs' around the playroom.
(A ramp for the cars on the Jumbo Race Car Carrier above, for instance.)
Why is this good for my toddler's development?
When a child turns two, they really begin to experiment and play with colour, shape and function. They also begin to properly 'play', meaning they start to play games with things they see.
They can also begin to bring their own imagination into the play and often, if left to their own devices with open-ended toys such as this, can start to really explore their world through play.
This rainbow can be used in SO many different ways-this is the small version as it is more cost-effective, however the bigger rainbow is available HERE in pastel colours or original and will not disappoint the buyer either!

Or the larger, pastel version here-or search for the original!
These 4 toys are all classic and developmentally appropriate two year old birthday present ideas.
They all contribute to learning in various ways and all aid in helping your small child develop their understanding of the world around them, and their place in it, whether through physical or imaginative play, or through interacting with others and developing their understandings of the world!
Which toy do you like best, and why?
